The first tourist destination of its kind to open around Mestia, Hatsvali Resort is popular throughout the year due to its immense natural beauty. While skiing is unquestionably the biggest drawcard, its breathtaking views of the Caucasus Mountains are enjoyable year-round.

Freeride at Hatsvali

Hatsvali boasts a total of 5,495 meters of ski trails catering to all levels of aptitude, but it is the prospect of freeriding that attracts adventurous skiers and snowboarders from around the world.

The very nature of freeriding means there are no marked trails to follow, so those wishing to have the experience of whizzing through the forest with the Ushba Massif ahead of them and the peaks of the Caucasus behind should hire an experienced local guide who knows the conditions on the mountain.

Summer Activities at Hatsvali

In the summer months, Hatsvali is no less appealing, with Georgians flocking to the region to hike, picnic, mountain bike, and paraglide.

The gondola cable cars on Hastvali are large enough to accommodate bicycles and camping equipment, making it an incredibly accessible destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The view from the cable car and the mountains takes in not only Mestia and its surrounding villages, but also the snow-capped peaks of the Caucasus Mountains and the rolling green hills that hem them.

It is even possible to paraglide from Hastvali to Mestia, soaring high over Svaneti’s famous Svan Towers and taking in a view that includes Ushba Massif and Mount Elbrus, the tallest mountain in Europe.

The Infrastructure of Hatsvali

Hatsvali offers both chair and gondola cable cars, with the second ascending to the skiing area.

Like all ski resorts in Georgia, Hatsvali is part of the single subscription system, meaning you can use a single multi-day pass to access the cable cars at other ski destinations such as Gudauri, Bakuriani, and Goderdzi

Two restaurants exist on the mountain, one at the lower cable car station and one at the upper. Visitors to the upper station can enjoy a mesmerizing view from Zuruldi Cafe while savoring a hot cup of coffee, tea, mulled wine, or hot chocolate.

If you’re looking for a ski vacation boasting fairytale beauty, unspoiled wilderness, and the famous Svan hospitality, Hatsvali is the pick for you!
