Kintrishi Protected Areas

Kintrishi Protected Areas

The Kintrishi Protected Areas were founded to protect the unique flora and fauna of the region between Tskemvana Village and Khino Mountain. Why? Because several species of animals and plants from the Tertiary Period (more than 2.5 million years ago) still call the park home, along with a variety of subtropical plants, deer, chamois, bears, foxes, martens, and more.

In addition to the natural treasures it protects, Kintrishi also keeps Ajara region's cultural heritage: the medieval arched bridges of Tskemvana, the St. George Convent, and the ruins of the 12th-century Khinotsminda John the Baptist Church.

Kintrishi Protected Areas are serviced by a visitor’s center, where the staff will be able to help you plan a convenient route to ensure your safe and pleasant trip. Notable trails include the Tamar Arched Bridge Trail, the Utkhovari and Tbikeli Lake Trail, as well as the Khino Waterfall Trail, all of which can be experienced on foot or on horseback.

It is also possible to camp in the park at night, with designated camping and picnic areas set aside. Stargazers will be especially enamored of this place, as the view is unparalleled.
