Sailing Mtkvari on a Tivi Canoe

A Tivi is a type of raft with wooden logs tied together in a specific way. A bunch of rafts on the banks of the Mtkvari river was an important attribute of old Tbilisi. At first, they were used to transport cargo, and later, for entertainment purposes. You could see Karachokhelis (Georgian workers and craftsmen) with musical instruments, food and wine merrily feasting on the river.

For a long time, Tbilisi had forgotten about this form of transportation but, it was brought back at the end of the last century, with the establishment of the Tbilisoba (Tbilisi city holiday), when Tivi rafts full of revelers appeared on the Mtkvari River. Today, the residents and visitors of the capital can raft along the river on a sightseeing tour of the old districts of Tbilisi. The houses with balconies with cliff-hanging balconies, and the views of Metekhi Cathedral, Abanotubani, and Ortachala are perfectly visible from the center of the river.

Enjoy pleasant music, have a cup of coffee or tea, taste Georgian wine, and take pictures of the beautiful scenery on the raft. Book the trip in advance and ask for additional time later, if you like. Arrange a private tour just for you and your loved ones. All safety measures must be followed on board.
