How Do You Get to Gveleti Waterfalls?

The waterfalls are just a short (seven kilometres) drive from Stepantsminda, close to Gveleti Village.  A paved road will take you to the village, from where you will have the help of signposts pointing you in the direction of the waterfall.

The early part of the hike takes you along a service road, but this soon gives way to walking trails that weave over streams, beneath towering cliffs, and between ferns and stubborn alpine scrub. As you draw nearer to your destination, you’ll begin to hear the throaty roar of the waterfall, or should we say waterfalls? There are actually two waterfalls side-by-side – the Small and Large Gveleti Waterfalls. There is about 750 meters between the two.

Your reward at the end of your hike is an unmatched view of this towering cascade and its smaller sibling. The chill mists and the even colder water are a perfect way to cool off after the hike.

What Will You See around Gveleti Waterfall?

The milky waterfalls flow noisily over the cliffs and into the gorge below. The large waterfall is thirty meters high and reaches a width of four meters near the bottom.

The Small and Large Gveleti Waterfalls are in an extraordinarily beautiful place which is even more impressive from August to October, when the sweetbrier, barberry, and sea buckthorn bloom. Summer and spring hikers can expect to be treated to a perfume of floral blooms as they make their way to the falls.
