Ski professionals will plan routes for you to match your physical preparedness and the weather. Ski tours from Kazbegi generally head to Chaukhi Pass, slopes near Juta Village, the watershed range of Khevsureti and Kazbegi, Kazbegi Mountain, and more.
These routes are unique and technically demanding, requiring advanced skiing skills. Some routes may even involve you climbing to the top using ropes!
Groups heading for Kazbegi Mountain will start in Stepantsminda Village. This route involves an overnight tour, allowing you an extended opportunity to take in the beautiful landscape.
The Chaukhi Pass route is comparatively more difficult – the road is rough and you’ll have to set up your own camp. Because of this, the Chaukh Pass route is only recommended for spring.
Besides hiring an experienced guide, it is important for you to have a complete set of equipment: your specialized skis, clothing, an avalanche kit, a radio transmitter, spades, and any other necessary tools and gear.
You’ll also need to be in good physical shape for a ski tour. If you are not completely prepared from that point of view, you can take a 2+ week preparation course from a local, certified specialist.
