Founded fifty years ago by the Georgian artist Nikoloz Metonidze, the Ambrolauri Museum of Fine Arts houses a collection of up to 600 works by both famous and lesser-known artists.
In the three permanent exhibition halls, you will find works of Georgian drawing, graphic art, ceramics, sculpture, and even blacksmithing, most of which are from the 20th century. Here you can see canvases from Georgian artists who are famous even outside of Georgia – Elene Akhvlediani, Lado Gudiashvili, Ketevan Magalashvili, Ucha Japaridze, Natela Iankoshvili, Edmond Kalandadze, Jibson Khundadze, Avto Varazi, Gogi Chagelishvili, David Kakabadze, and others.
Whether a lover of art or a layman, you should definitely take this opportunity to peruse the works of contemporary Georgian artists, as this is one of the best ways to better understand the people and culture of Georgia.
