Uchkho Canyon is located in Khulo municipality in Ajara region, on the southern slopes of the Meskheti Ridge.
The route starts in the village of Uchkho, 1,300 meters above sea level, with an elevation drop of 550 meters. Along the route, there are 12 cascading waterfalls, the tallest of which is 50 meters and is divided into two parts. Two ropes are required to descend from here. The canyon has a wide gorge and is surrounded by mixed and deciduous forests. It takes 4-5 hours to complete the route, but you can also split it into two parts, if you like.
During the summer season, the average temperature ranges between 20 and 25 degrees.
There are buses that go from Batumi city to Khulo town every day, and a microbus that goes from Khulo to Uchkho. From the center of the village, you can rent an SUV, which will take you to the end of the road in 20-30 minutes. From there, it takes 3-4 hours to walk to the starting point.
Before beginning the trip, the instructors will explain how to descend and how to control your speed and intensity.
Having been securely tied to the top of the cliff, you descend according to the pre-planned route detailed. The instructors will also provide you with a wetsuit, a helmet, and a rock climber’s harness. You should wear closed sports or hydro shoes.
It is advised to contact the tour organizer in advance, and then pay in cash on location.
You’re sure to get wet while canyoning, so do not take any items with you that are not waterproof - better leave them in the car till the end of the tour.
