The hiking route will take you to the foot of the Shdugra Waterfall, but you can also climb to the top of the waterfall for captivating views of Svaneti.
The path to the waterfall starts from the village of Mazeri and is moderately difficult. The walking distance to reach the foot of Shdugra is about 3 km. If you decide to climb to the top of the waterfall, you will have to hike an additional 3 km and cross the river.
Keep in mind that you will definitely need a raincoat near the waterfall. Also, be aware that you will not find water along the route, so it is best to restock in Mazeri and refill at the border post.
Svaneti is rich in beautiful nature and one of the biggest attractions of the region is 120-meter-high Shdugra Waterfall, also known as Ushba Waterfall, which is thought to be the most abundant waterfall in Georgia.
On the way to the waterfall, you will pass through a beautiful coniferous forest. If you stand on the top of the waterfall, you will see huge boulders packed at the base of the Ushba glacier, while all around you mountains stretch up to the sky.
The best time for this hike is spring, summer and autumn.
