The length of the hiking route is 17 kilometers. The height difference from Iprari to the pass is 700 meters, and from the pass to the village of Chvelpi - 1,750 meters. The route is quite difficult but it is balanced by the variety of sights, making it an unforgettable tour.
Iprari village is located on the right bank of the Enguri River, 2,100 meters above sea level. The main attraction of this village is the 11th-century - Archangel Church of Iprari, a great example of traditional Svan architecture. Draw your attention to the traces of paint on the exterior facade, which is a characteristic feature of Svan architecture and is not found anywhere else in Georgia.
The hiking route starts from Iprari, crosses the Enguri River by bridge and goes up towards Latpari Pass.
The height of Latpari Pass is 2,800 meters, and there you will find a church of the Holy Apostle Luke, constructed in 2018. The church has a magical touch in winter when it's completely coated in snow. The ridge is covered with alpine and subalpine meadows.
Enjoy the views and make your way to Chvelpi village.
The village of Chvelpi is located on the right bank of the Tskhenistskali River, at an altitude of 1,150 meters. Despite the fact that Chvelpi is a small settlement, here you can find several family hotels and have a chance to taste the local cuisine.
The road from Chvelpi to the town of Lentekhi, the administrative center of Kvemo (lower) Svaneti Region, is 18 kilometers.
