Mount Laila (Layla)

Mount Laila (Layla)

Mountainous Svaneti is one of Georgia’s most popular tourist destinations due to the towering peaks of the Caucasus mountains, its giant glaciers, the iconic Svan towers, and the hospitality and cuisine of its people. In Mestia Municipality, at a height of 4,009 metres above sea level, you'll find Mount Laila (aka Layla), the highest point of the Svaneti Range and the source of the Lailchala River.

How Do You Get to the Peak?

The route to the peak of Mount Laila begins in the village of Tviberi. Along the way, you’ll come across crystal-clear springs and quaint shepherd’s huts. After a few kilometres, you’ll come to Chizhdi Pass (3,200 metres above sea level), where you’ll have an excellent view of Ushba Peak.

The climb is difficult, so you’ll not only want to come well prepared, but should hire a certified guide to ensure you make the journey safely.

Mount Laila is also known by several other names, such as Lahili, and Layla.
