Skitouring in Arakhveti

Location

Arakhveti Village is located in Dusheti municipality, at an altitude of 1,520 meters above sea level, 15 kilometers away from Gudauri Ski Resort. Also, as the village is only 90 km away from Tbilisi, those going on the ski tour can choose between staying the night in Gudauri or Tbilisi.

Arakhveti Route

The route starts in the village of Arakhveti with a climb of 680 meters. The path follows a forest to the route’s highest point at 2,200 meters above sea level.

From this point on, you start to descend, retracing your steps. The main chunk of the ski route goes through a forest on the northern exposure of the mountain, which distinguishes this route from others around the valley. There are beautiful views of Gudauri to be enjoyed from the mountain top, and you then ski back down to where you began.

Things to Consider

Skiing on this route is possible from January to the end of March.

You will need an off-road vehicle to reach the route. If the roads are clear, it is also possible to reach Arakhveti using an ordinary car. 

In addition to hiring an experienced guide, it is important to have the right equipment, including, ski touring skis, an avalanche bag, a transmitter, a shovel, a probe, and other necessities.
