Location

The village of Sioni is located in Kazbegi municipality, at an altitude of 1,860 meters above sea level, on the banks of the Tergi River. The village is 9 km from the center of the town of Stepantsminda, 26 km from Gudauri, and 129 km from Tbilisi.

Sioni is at the entrance to the Terkhena River Valley, with an outstanding view of Sakhizari Rock, a natural wonder, adding a special charm to the route. You can also see a glacier alongside many monuments of cultural heritage in the village.

Route

The route starts from Sioni. Leave your vehicle at the edge of the village and head towards Terkhena Valley For 2km, after which you start climbing the ridge.

After ascending for 1,050 meters, you start your descent from 3,000 meters above sea level back towards the village.

The length of the route is 8 kilometers in total.

Things to Consider

Skiing on this route is possible from January to the end of April.

Before or after taking the route, you can stay in Gudauri or Stepantsminda at a hotel or guesthouse.

You will need an off-road vehicle to get to the starting point.

In addition to hiring an experienced guide, it is important to have the right equipment, including, ski touring skis, an avalanche bag, a transmitter, a shovel, a probe, and other necessities.
