Hatsvali forest
Hatsvali forest could be your go-to place for snowshoeing. Choose among different routes such as the road below the Hatsvali-Zuruldi cable car or the Mestia-Hatsvali area.
Mestia-Mulakhi
One of the best routes for snowshoeing is from Mestia to Mulakhi village via the summer footpath. The route starts in Kakhiri, passing through Gvalda to gaze upon the peaks of Ushba and Tetnuldi, as well as enjoy the views of Mestia and Mulakhi. From Gvalda, drive 8 kilometers to Zardlashi and Murshkeli villages in the Mulakhi community.
Hatsvali-Heshkili-Lenjeri
From Hatsvali, snowshoe to the ancient Heshkili village, where you can see the peaks of the Caucasus, the Harashi mountains, and the Laila peak. Through Heshkilli, walk down to the historic Lenjeri village (6 kilometers to walk), or Tsvirmi village. Pass through the breathtaking panoramic route of the Zuruldi ridge.
Ushguli
Ushguli is a community and a village 42 kilometers away from Mestia, 2,200 meters above sea level, at the foot of the Shkhara peak, near the headwaters of Enguri. The Ushguli community includes 5 villages: Chazhashi, Lajurishi, Murkmeli, Zhibiani, and Chvibiani. Ushguli with its remarkable medieval Svan towers is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Winter is harsh and long here, making it an ideal destination for snowshoeing.
Winter activities require a local certified guide, especially in the mountainous parts of Georgia.
You can rent snowshoes in the rental spot in the center of Mestia.
