Ceramic Room Shop - Stories Told with Clay

It is not unusual to find a beautiful synergy of antiquity and modernity in Tbilisi. This is especially evident in locally produced handicrafts such as art, tableware, and accessories. At the Ceramic Room Shop on Aleksandre Chavchavadze Street atop Mtatsminda, you’ll find a ceramics studio that works to keep this tradition of fusing traditional design elements with modern art alive. You can also find a storefront for the studio at Vasil Barnovi Street 30.

eramic Room Shop’s Ceramic Signs and Slabs

It was not so long ago that ceramic signs began appearing in the old districts of Tbilisi. These colourful slabs with their ornamental decoration and careful inscriptions have added a certain charm to old Tbilisi. You’ll find examples of these signs at the Orbeliani and Gudiashvili Squares, as well as the streets surrounding them. You’ll also find them on Ingorokva, 9 April, and Pushkin Streets.

The demand for these beautiful and distinctive signs is constantly increasing, with the international market starting to notice. You’ll find these ceramic signs at the popular Georgian restaurant Marani in London, where the sixteen-step ceramic staircase is inspired by traditional Georgian carpets.

Another unique project is the steps leading to the Tbilisi Art Academy and connecting Rustaveli Avenue to Griboedovi Street, which are faced with handmade tiles decorated with Georgian ornamentation.

If you’re looking for a unique souvenir to take back home with you, the Ceramic Room Shop is a good place to look.
