These days, David Doiashvili, the art director of the theater, along with Nika Memanishvili, a composer, is conducting theatrical experiments based on classic dramaturgy.
The first play that was performed on the stage of Vaso Abashidze Music and Drama Theater was Scapin the Schemer by Moliere in 1935, and the first Georgian musical comedy, Khajarati, was performed in 1939.
The theater was named in honor of Vaso Abashidze, a Georgian actor and one of the founders of the realistic Georgian acting school, in the mid-2000s.
Since 2021, the Music and Drama Theater has a new name – Vaso Abashidze New Theater, as well as new location - David Aghmashenebeli Avenue 127.
