Bugdasheni Managed Reserve

Bughdasheni Managed Reserve is located in southern Georgia and is a part of Javakheti National Park, which includes Akhalkalaki and Ninotsminda Municipalities.

Javakheti National Park is recognised for its lakes, unique wetlands, as well as subalpine and alpine meadows, and Bughdasheni Managed Reserve, being a part of it, covers a total area of 126 hectares, encompassing Bughdasheni Lake which is on the list of Wetlands of International Importance.

Bughdasheni Lake is located at an altitude of 2,040 m above sea level, while its surface area is 0.39 km², and the maximum water depth is 0.85 meters, with the Bughdasheni River flowing from the northwestern side.

Waterfowl use this area for resting and feeding, making it a spectacular location for bird-watching. 

The route to Bughdasheni Lake starts from the center of the village of Gorelovka in Ninotsminda Municipality, following the shores of the lake and leading to the birdwatching tower. The distance from Gorelovka to the lake is only 2 km, and you will also find a picnic area on the way. 

Boating is also possible on the lake.
