Dusheti Municipality straddles the average-sized hills and higher mountain areas of central Georgia.
The city of Dusheti is 50 kilometers from Tbilisi and is distinguished by its beautiful forests and meadows, making it a wonderful place for hiking and a generally joyful vacation.
According to archeological discoveries, Dusheti’s history starts from the early antique era, but the first record of the area appears in 1215. It was here that the Aragvi noble family's residence was located, where important cultural and literature traditions were established, and where many Georgian bibliophiles were raised.
The history of Dusheti is told by the Eparchy of Tsilkani and Dusheti, on the territory of which, near the village of Tsilkani, an early Christian (2nd-3rd century) chapel was discovered in the ruins. This discovery indicates the existence of an early Christian community. The history of the Christianization of the mountains is also related to this place, and the Patriarchate was first established here at the end of the 5th century.
An interesting visit to Chilashvili Fortress is always worthwhile, and so too is the observatory of geophysics, which is one of the most important scientific centers in the country to carry out earth magnetism, hydrometeorological, atmosphere electricity, and other scientific studies.
Five kilometers from Dusheti, in an area surrounded by mountains, you will find Bazaleti Lake, which is of volcanic origin.
Dusheti is also known for its delicious cuisine including Pshavi's Khinkali, Kaurma, and Dambalkhacho. This area is also famous for colorful ornamental, handknitted carpets, and unique clothing. You can buy all of these items here and take them with you as souvenirs.
